Break In and Theft
It saddens us deeply to report that our camp facility was broken into and a number of items were stolen. As far as we can determine this occured between March 23rd and April 19th, 2020. Our camp facility is located 25 km north of Prince Albert and has been operating since 1977.
A total of six buildings were broken into and seven doors destroyed in the process. What was stolen gives the appearance the camp was raided for COVID-19 supplies. Items taken include toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, first aid supplies and survival type gear. Other opportunistic items such as computers, tablets, chainsaws and tools were also taken. They attempted to steal our camp truck and bus, causing damage in the process. We believe it was the raid of COVID-19 supplies that prompted the break in. Snowmobiles and/or quads were used to ferry the items out of the camp to either vehicles or some other means of transport. Some items were recovered along the driveway and river bank.
We find it upsetting that people would rob a camp that works so hard to help kids facing educational barriers. The closure of camps, lack of funding and uncertainty of our future, as a result of COVID-19, makes this even more difficult to deal with. Any funds needed to offset this loss will diminish our ability to help our local youth during these most trying of times.
If someone needed supplies, we wish they would have asked rather than break in. We would have tried our best to assist and save the approximate $10,000 worth of damage done and $15,000 worth of items stolen.
If anyone has any information that could assist in solving this crime please contact the Prince Albert RCMP at (306) 765 5500. File number 2020-496621.
